Liquid Date Nons and Bridge

So I decided to make my 60th post my last entry of Liquid dates. I wasn't sure who to feature..Initially it was going to be just me then I thought why not add the person I've had real life liquid sessions with, my partner in crime Bridgette. We've often mistaken for a lesbian couple and we're slowly coming to terms with this. Here's our liquid date.

Who is Bridgette?
-Bridgette is a 20-something year old God-fearing single mom of one who's a graduate of the school of hard knocks.

What motto do you live by?

- my motto is 'acknowledge that life is a learning process and learn'

When do you feel most beautiful?
- when I wear my favourite dress. A frock I inherited (more like jacked from my mom) when my grandmother died. She passed when I was 12 and when it comes to clothes I remember how she used to put on her 'Sunday best' every Saturday for church, hat and all.

What do you wish everyone knew?
- I wish everyone knew that love is perfect.

Who/what do you love right now?
-I'm loving the grown-up version of my son. I had him young and he's a teen now, I'm really loving the way he's turning out and that I can see so much of me in him, at the same time seeing him being his own person completely opposite to what I am.

What/who makes you laugh till you cry?
-little things like people saying stuff wrong and when my colleague Lungi does impersonations of people in the office. Oh, also my own blonde moments, which happen too often.

What turning point shaped who you are today?
- Realising that ALL the good and ALL the bad things in my life are God's weaving. I'm but a mosaic and when all these come together they create a beautiful thing to marvel and look at.

Favourite part of your body
-my lips, they're shaped like a heart and when I kiss a person's cheek with lipstick on it looks like a broken heart.

Worst?
- the worst is my tummy, its not flat.

What change would you like to bring in the world?
- I'd bring sunshine everyday :).. Failing that I'd make everyone capitalize on their innate good and use that to develop others.

What has been your proudest moment?
- the moment when I decided to take a step back and stop doing thing others expected of me, and just took an internal sabbatical to find me and what I like, what self destructive habits and views I have and start unlearning all the views I had of myself that weren't edifying my life.

Your lowest? And how did you bounce back?

- the lowest point in my life was when I lost a daughter when I was 21. I bounced back with the support of family and the intro to God as a Father instead of an abstract idea of a creator. I got to know and developed a relationship with this God and its been the best decision I've made.

Who has inspired your life n how?

- Many people inspire in different ways, Steve Biko inspires me to embrace my blackness and the way I was created. Maya Angelou to triumph despite setbacks, my mom being good to everyone and my friends just living life to the absolute fullest

Give us a few lines from your favourite song/poem

-So much craziness surroundin’ me
So much goin’ on, it gets hard to breathe
When all my faith has gone, you bring it back to me
You make it real for me
When I'm not sure of my priorities
When I've lost sight of where I'm meant to be
Like holy water washin’ over me
You make it real for me

If you could design yourself a life partner(Adam) how would he be(physical n character wise)?
- he would be taller than me, God fearing, love music and the arts. Take me out to theatre and for picnics and eating out at restaurants. Someone I'd be able to talk smack , politics, religion and everything else under the sun. Someone to give me a hug after a long day and who's silence will say tons. Someone who I'll complement and will love me so much and make me submitting to him a pleasure instead of a tedious obligation.

Who is Noni?

-Noni is Nozuko, Sis'Ivy's last born and a lover of words and melodies.

What motto do you live by?
-Who you are when no one is watching is who you really are. This compels me to live my life honestly.

When do you feel most beautiful?

-When my hair is up and when I'm at peace with myself.

What do you wish everyone knew?
- That there's greatness tattooed in our DNA and that they count.

Who/what do you love right now?

- I love my nephew Mbali kaNtu with all my heart because he's funny, cute and inquisitive (potential to be as smart as his great aunt ;)
I love Lianne La Havas for her honest lyrics and beautiful voice.
I love beach walks on non-sunny days.

What/who makes you laugh till you cry?

- My mom isn't a talker but she is mad funny. She does it so effortlessly.

What turning point shaped who you are today?

-Nonkululeko Godana indirectly helped me realize I could do anything I put my mind to. Through meeting her I started performing my music live, writing for publications and starting my women's stokvel.

Favourite part of your body

-My bottom *bats eyelids*,my lips and my a-cups!

Worst?
-My arms and thighs

What change would you like to bring in the world?

-I'd like to empower youth from black townships through literacy and also unite and empower women of all kinds. Nutshell: I want to inspire change in others.

What has been your proudest moment?

- When I started my stokvel and when a lady I worked with told me how observing me,she had seen how well I carry myself and the manner in which I treat people and was inspired to do the same. This came at a time when i felt like my efforts were a drop in an ocean.

Your lowest? And how did you bounce back?
-2007 I experienced the greatest disappointment in my life, people I had looked up to failed me, lost a few friends and my nephew passed away. It felt like all I'd ever believed in was a lie but with my friends who are like family to me, and God who infused me with good doses of his spirit daily, i'm here.Stronger and better.

Who has inspired your life n how?

-My mother, Oprah and everyone whos' made it through hardship.

Give us a few lines from your favourite song/poem

-Why do I question/ Your intentions for me/When Your affection is a proven legacy

If you could design yourself a life partner how would he be(physical n character wise)?
-He'd have my pastor, Andy Anderson's strength of character, sing like Maxwell and respect women.
